Austria has been a traditional gateway between South Eastern European countries and Western Europe for centuries.

Austria, with its wide spectrum of exemptions from corporate income tax on dividends and capital gains, and its exemption from withholding tax on interest, is an attractive jurisdiction for holding companies. Unlike many other jurisdictions, Austria has no specific tax regime for holding companies. However, they can benefit from tax benefits such as a tax exemption for inbound dividends and capital gains, and, under the EU directive, a withholding tax exemption for outbound dividends.
